NCS Community Message 3/25

We have had a lot of requests for devices for families who need them. Your building principal will be contacting you with information about where and when to pick the device up. Please have patience as we try to get devices to you in the most efficient way possible. Please don’t go to your building to get a device unless you have been contacted by a building principal. As we prepare for posting our first week of class lessons online, I am reminded of a saying: School is not a place: It’s what is taking place. We have a lot of great opportunities for student learning during this time. Educating at home can be a positive thing. More +

March 23 NCS Community Message

We wanted to remind families that we are still providing our lunch and breakfast meals at our elementary buildings and the Administration Service Center this week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Even though the governor has issued a stay-at-home order across the state, we are able to provide these meals. We do encourage families to pick up multiple days’ worth of meals so that you don’t need to make trips every day. As we said last week, we are able to make devices available for families who need them. If you need a device for your home, please contact your building principal by email with the names of your children, what schools they attend and your current address and phone numbers. We will begin giving the devices to families on Thursday and Friday from 10 to 1. Your principal will be getting in touch with you on when and where to pick them up. More +

NCS to pay staff during closure following Board action

The Newark City School District will continue compensation of all regular employees throughout the current mandatory school closure, after the Board of Education passed a resolution during a special meeting on Thursday. The board has authorized district Treasurer Julio Valladares to pay all regular employees, aides and substitutes until the governor ends the mandatory school closure, or the authorization is withdrawn by the board.
