Welcome to
the McGuffey Elementary website and the 2019 – 2020 school year. My name is Cynthia M. Baker and I am the very
proud principal of McGuffey Elementary School.
The McGuffey teachers, staff, and volunteers
are dedicated to helping each child become the best learner and citizen that
they can be! Our school was named after
William H. McGuffey. He introduced a
reader in 1841 that was used in many classrooms in the United States. One of my great-grandmother’s most cherished
possessions was her McGuffey Reader that she had kept from her elementary
school days. The student modeled in the
reader is Caring, Accountable, Truthful, and reSpectful. We call these our CATS behaviors and practice them each day at McGuffey. These behaviors, which model the characteristics
of the student in the McGuffey reader, lead to both success in the classroom
and in life. I have two McGuffey readers
in my office as a daily reminder of these characteristics. Our school motto emphasizes these virtues
while leading students to discover their talents and emphasizing that we all
play a part in our learning community.
I am a McGuffey Citizen.
I am good, I am smart, and today
I will do my part!
We also
recognize the vital role parents play in the school community. There are many ways that parents can become
involved in the McGuffey community.
Please take the time to get to know your child’s school and teacher by
attending school events, coming to PTO meetings, attending parent-teacher
conferences, and other school wide celebrations.
The staff of
McGuffey will continue to communicate with our families through phone calls and
notes, interims, progress reports, social media, and good old fashion face to
face talks with parents and guardians because we truly believe in your child
and their success at McGuffey. Please
contact me by email at [email protected]
or call the school office at 740-670-7140 if you have any questions or
concerns.
Thank you!
