February 2020 Citizens of the Month
Every month, NCS honors 30 students in grades 4 through 12 from across the district as Citizens of the Month. Students are chosen for their leadership in and outside of the classroom. They get to invite family members and friends to a special lunch, sponsored by a local organization. 5K Fun Run to support Cops and Kids, Mental Health America
5K Fun Run to support Cops and Kids, Mental Health America
Register now for the "Bust the Stigma Mental Health 5K Fun Run," sponsored by Newark City Schools and benefitting Cops and Kids, as well as Mental Health America of Licking County. The fun run is set for Saturday, May 2, at Rotary Park, with registration at 8:30 a.m. and kick-off at 9:30. Registration is $25 through April 20, $30 from April 21-May 1, and $35 on Race Day. Cops and Kids began in 2019 by providing shopping opportunities for 38 students, who got to eat lunch and shop with local police officers.  Read More...
Newark High School Presents “Emma: A Pop Musical” March 20-21
Based on the Jane Austen novel, Emma, “Emma: A Pop Musical” is a tale that surrounds a modern-day high school. A senior at Highbury Prep, Emma wants to find love for every one of her classmates. But how long can Emma keep it up without something going sour? Newark High School Drama will present “Emma: A Pop Musical” at 7 p.m. on Fri., March 20, and 3 p.m. on Sat., March 21, in the NHS Auditorium. College Credit Plus Information for the 2020-21 school year
Newark High School recently held a meeting for students interested in taking College Credit Plus courses next year. If you were unable to attend that meeting, you still find the information here. Students must return the Intent to Participate form to the counseling office by April 1. They must also apply to the college/univeristy, register for the ACT/SAT and then work with college academic advisor and NHS counselor for scheduling. Wildcat basketball playoff brackets now available
The Newark Wildcat boys and girls basketball teams are headed to the postseason. Both teams will play their first two rounds in the Jimmy Allen Gymnasium. The girls tip off against Franklin Heights at 7 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 15, at home. The second round game would tip at 7 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 21, against Mount Vernon. The full girls' basketball district bracket is available by clicking this link. The boys' tournament run will begin will begin with a home game at 1 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 22, against Teays Valley. Coronavirus information from the Ohio Department of Health
While there have been no confirmed cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus in Ohio, we wanted to share information about the coronavirus with district families. According to the Ohio Department of health, the risk of the virus to the general public is low, with a small number of cases in the United States. Currently you are only at risk if you are displaying symptoms and have recently traveled to China in the 14 days before being sick, or you have been in contact with someone who possibly has the virus and traveled to China in the past 14 days before getting sick.
