Superintendent David Lewis was able to visit classrooms across the district this month to congratulate our March 2021 Citizens of the Month. Students are honored monthly based on their actions inside and outside of the classroom at school. They are nominated by their teachers. Usually, students are able to invite their families to a pizza lunch to recognize their achievement. This year, students are being recognized in front of their peers, with a certificate and coupons.
At this time, we have used 9 calamity days. In previous years, days missed past 5 have been made up. However, we do not anticipate making up any calamity days this school year due to the unprecedented circumstances surrounding this past year. We did not want to take away from spring break or add days to the end of the school year. Required classroom time is now tracked by total hours of school, rather than the number of days. The regular school year includes enough time in-class that we do not need to make up these calamity days.
