Technology Fee for 2022-23 school year

The Newark City School District will assess families with a technology fee of $40 for the 2022-23 school year. This fee covers technology usage and the district’s one-to-one computer initiative, helping to pay for repairs and maintenance of devices. Please see the Student Device Handbook for more information by clicking here. The NCS Board of Education has waived academic fees for the 22-23 school year. This includes all consumable instructional fees assessed on a yearly basis for workbooks and other classroom supplies. The academic fees have ranged from $28 to $36 in elementary; $43 to $50 in middle school; and can be over $100 for some high school students depending on classes. Fees will still be assessed for AP testing and for any lost or damaged district property, such as books. Preschool tuition is not considered a fee and has not been waived. Additionally, prior years’ unpaid fees have also not been waived. Please pay your prior school years’ fees as soon as possible.

Free & Reduced Meal Application

WHY fill out a Free & Reduced application?
The Newark City Schools Food Service Department participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and applications are a requirement to be part of the program. A submitted, approved application could qualify your child for Free or Reduced status and the following:

  1. When an application is submitted and approved for Free meals, the School Instructional Fees are waived at the end of the school year*
  2. All applications help Newark schools with Title I funding
  3.  All applications help Newark schools with Technology funding
  4. P-EBT: These funds which are provided from the NSLP are only sent to those students who qualify for Free or Reduced meals. School eligibility guidelines have varied the past school year. We are unsure at this time if P-EBT will be issued and or what conditions must be met.
