Title: HURRICANES! By Gail Gibbons

Winds Howl.  Rain pours down.  Violent waves crash on the shore and storm surge causes flooding. This dangerous spinning storm is a hurricane.  In this text, Gail Gibbons uses lots of ways to teach us how hurricanes form, the damage they cause and how they are named.  As we read, notice the text features she uses to help you as a reader.

Math:  

Go to the Zearn Website (Zearn).  Enter your username and password. Please complete all 4 parts of your Zearn Mission. 


Science: Create an Anemometer

Questions to think about:  If 10 turns in 1 minute = 1 mph of wind speed, what is the wind speed outside today?

 if it was put in front of a fan at high speed?  Low speed?


Needed Materials:  

5  3oz. paper cups

2  Straws

1  pencil with eraser

1  push pin

1  pair of scissors
