Summer Intervention for students with IEPs - sign up now

Students with IEPs and who receive services for reading, math and/or writing are eligible to sign up for summer intervention. Summer intervention will be held at Newark High School from 8 a.m. until noon Monday through Thursday, three weeks during the summer: June 6-9; July 18-21; and August 1-4. You may sign up for one, two or all three weeks. Registration will be required to be completed 7 days prior to the start of each week of intervention. Income Tax Renewal place on May 3 ballot

The Newark City School District Board of Education has placed a renewal of the district’s 1 percent Income Tax on the May 3, 2022, primary election ballot. The tax, originally approved in 1997, raises about $10 million per year — about 13 percent of district operating revenue. This money goes toward staff expenses, textbooks, transportation and other district operations. Voters have approved the income tax every 5 years since its original approval. This year’s renewal is for a continuing 1 percent income tax and includes no new taxpayer money.

Summer School applications for 2022

Summer School applications for 2022 are now available. The first semester lasts from June 6 through 24; the second semester lasts from June 27 through July 15. Courses taken for credit recovery are free for Newark students. The cost is $153 for one semester and $204 for both for Newark students, or $230 and $300 or out-of-district students. Middle school classes are only offered during the second semester, and fees are free for class re-takes. Click below for applications:

Stewards of Children training offered at ASC

Newark City Schools presents Stewards of Children, an evidence-informed, award-winning two-hour training that teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Through interviews with child sexual abuse survivors, experts, and treatment providers, Stewards of Children teaches adults practical actions they can take to reduce instances of child sexual abuse in their organizations, families and communities. Band fittings for current 5th grade students scheduled for April 26, 28

All 5th graders planning to attend Wilson or Heritage Middle School are invited to come and try out a BAND instrument on Tuesday April 26th or Thursday April 28th. Appointments are available via the SignUpGenius link available on the district website. Band instrument fittings for students attending Liberty Middle School will be held at a later date.
