This weekend, the Newark Cross Country teams host their home invitational at the Evans Athletic Complex. High school girls will run at 8:30 a.m., with the boys running at 9:05. Middle school girls are at 9:45 and boys at 10:15. Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased online at tinyurl.com/NHScatstiks.

During September 2021's regular board meeting, Newark City Schools honored 4 students, a staff member and a community member from Ben Franklin Elementary with Wildcat Spotlights. Congratulations to students Jackson Batten, Khloe Britton, Teagan McClain and Ayvah Strawser; also teacher Renee French and community member Loretta Buchanan. The Board will honor Wildcat Spotlights from different schools each month during the school year.

The Downtown Newark Association invites all local families downtown from 4 to 7 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 27, for STEM on the Square. Local businesses and organizations, including NCS, will be stationed around the courthouse with hands-on activities and demonstrations related to science, technology, engineering and math. The Board of Education of the Newark City School District (the Owner) intends to contract for Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) services in connection with its PK & Digital Academy Building Project (the Project). As required by Ohio Revised Code Section 9.33, et seq., the Owner requests statements of qualifications from experienced firms to provide CMR services to the Owner in connection with the Work for the Project. Middle and high school students can pick their district-provided Chromebooks up from their school between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each weekday from Wed., Aug. 11, through Tues., Aug. 17. This is part of the district's one-to-one device initiative, introduced this year. A parent or guardian must be present to sign for the device.
