Newark Cheerleading is hosting a Cheer Clinic from 8 a.m. to noon on Fri., Oct. 14, for students in grades K-5, in the Newark High School main gym. The clinic will include a fun day of learning motions, jumps and cheers with the Newark Cheerleaders. The $30 cost also includes a cheer shirt, pizza, drink and snack. McGuffey Elementary was named a 2022 All-American Elementary School by the American Legion Auxiliary and three of the school's students received awards for essays they wrote last school year. Students Jayke Williamson, Nellyanna Cooper, and Myra Hartings were recognized for their contributions to the Americanism Essay Contest. They wrote an essay based on the prompt, "How can we support families who provide care to their Veterans?" The contest is divided into 6 classes based on grade levels, with 1st - 3rd place awards in each class. The winner of each group receives $50 and a $50 donation is given in the student's name to the Children of Warriors National President's Scholarship fund.

McGuffey Elementary was awarded a Silver Award from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Network, in recognition of the school's efforts to provide ongoing behavior support interventions to our students. McGuffey teachers and staff continue to work hard to provide support for each and every student. Each year, ODE and the PBIS Network recognize schools and districts for the quality and fidelity of PBIS implementation. Schools are eligible to receive awards at the bronze, silver, or gold levels of distinction.

Eight Newark High School students have qualified for the East-Central Region Orchestra, which is made up of top students from 21 counties.
