Legend Elementary has piloted a new program geared toward equipping girls with skills needed to live health, independent, productive and violence-free lives this fall. The Ruling Our Experiences (ROX) program helps girls learn how to form healthy body images, develop healthy relationships, stay safe and stand up for themselves. Newark City Schools piloted the program with two classes at Legend Elementary this fall, and will be expanding the program to other schools in the future.
ROX, developed at Ohio State University, is based on research and academic study, with curriculum that has demonstrated positive outcomes for girls. The program is delivered by licensed school counselors or social workers, who have been trained in the ROX method.
