Tasks:
Watch the following youtube video about 3D shapes
Place a set of 3D objects in front of your child
soup can, ball, wooden block, birthday hat, ice cream cone etc.
Show the faces (flat sides) of each object
Sort the objects by shapes that have faces and shapes that do not have faces
Needed Materials: 3D objects from your house (can, ball, block or cube shape, birthday hat or ice cream cone)
Stem Activity: What Shape is the Strongest?.
Needed Materials: 3 pieces of paper (can be the same color or different), tape or glue and scissors
Fold 1 piece of paper to make a triangle and tape/glue
Fold 1 piece of paper to make a circle and tape/glue
Fold 1 piece of paper to make a square and tape/glue
Stack books on top of each shape (stack one book at a time)
Write down number of books each shape can hold
Which shape was the strongest?
Repeat above steps but this time cut paper to make shapes shorter/smaller
Stack books and write down the number of books each shape can hold.
Describe how the shapes are the same and how they are different. Did the size of the shape change the number of books it could hold? Why? Or why not?
