Book Introduction: After a fire destroys their home and possessions, a girl named Rosa, her mother, and grandmother save money until they can afford to buy a big comfortable chair that all three of them can enjoy.  As I read this story, listen for how Rosa and her family saved money for the chair, why it was important for them to have a chair and what you can learn from their experience.

Writing about Reading: Choose ONE of the prompts below for your writing response.

=      You have worked hard to save money to buy furniture for your new bedroom. Your parents will let you buy anything you want as long as you can prove you need it. Explain what piece of furniture you would buy. In your response, give at least two reasons why you need it or how you would use it. 

=      In your opinion, what is one of the most important items in your home that your whole family needs?   Explain why this item is important to your family?  Give details.
