Life In Space

Living in a space station can be challenging. Watch the video about how astronauts live. You only need to watch Chapter 5 for this activity, but you are welcome to watch more if you want.

Virtual Field Trip Video

The video goes over a few things that astronauts have to do differently, compared to here on Earth. What are some other activities that you do everyday that would be challenging in space? Choose one activity that was not mentioned in the video and design a solution for how to do it in space. Share your solution by building your design, drawing a picture of your design, or writing an explanation of your design. Example activities:  Throwing a ball, doing your homework, painting a picture, washing your hair.

Explain , draw, or upload a picture of your design in the box below.  Feel free to send a picture of your design to your teacher in another way too.

Optional Activities

Math:

Jack works at a bakery.  When he sells individual cupcakes, he packages each cupcake in a cube-shaped box.  Each box measures 3 inches in length, width, and height.

  1.  Jack wants to design a new box that holds 6 cupcakes.  The new 6-pack cupcake box must

  • Be a rectangular prism;

  • Provide each cupcake with the same distance of space as an individual cupcake box provides; and

  • Measure 3 inches in height

Describe below, in words, all the 6-pack box designs that will fit these conditions.

Find the value of the following using the picture below:  Lime Candy, Fish Candy, Swirly Pop, Jelly Bean.
