Compare and Contrast Sophia Valdez and Walt Disney (from day 1). How were they similar and how were they different? Use specific examples from the books. You may want to rewatch parts of the videos to help with finding evidence.

Math & Science

Standards: 5.MD.1, 3,5

Tasks: STEM:

Sophia saw a need and created something to help her community.  What could you design that is needed in Newark? It could be a park, playground, skatepark, shelter house or something else!  Draw your design in your notebook, or build the actual park with materials at home if you can.

While doing this work focus on measuring the length, width, and height of the shelter house and then calculate the volume (length x width x height = volume).

Optional:  show your designs in a google slide show!

Needed Materials:  Notebook, pencil, cardboard or any other building materials.

Math Word Problems:  Solve in your notebook.

How much sand is needed to fill a pit that measures 8 meters deep, 10 meters wide, and 15 meters long? Explain your answer.

Trevor has a unique species of fish for his aquarium. He knows the fish needs at least 240 cubic feet of water in the tank. Create a tank that holds exactly 240 cubic feet of water. Show your work, including the dimensions of the tank (length, width, and height).
