Coronavirus information from the Ohio Department of Health

While there have been no confirmed cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus in Ohio, we wanted to share information about the coronavirus with district families. According to the Ohio Department of health, the risk of the virus to the general public is low, with a small number of cases in the United States. Currently you are only at risk if you are displaying symptoms and have recently traveled to China in the 14 days before being sick, or you have been in contact with someone who possibly has the virus and traveled to China in the past 14 days before getting sick. More information about the coronavirus is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by clicking this link.

People who have been diagnosed with the 2019 novel coronavirus have reported symptoms including fever, cough and difficulty breathing that may appear between 2 and 14 days after exposure to the virus. According to the Ohio Department of Health, people are more likely to catch the flu or common cold, which show some of the same symptoms.

ODH advises that the usual hygiene recommendations remain: Wash hands for 20 seconds or more with soapy water; avoid touching your eyes, nos or mouth with unwashed hands; avoid contact with people who are sick; stay home while sick; get adequate sleep and eat well-balanced meals.

Cleaning and disinfection of surfaces will continue throughout our schools per standard procedures for infection prevention.
