This weekend, the Newark Cross Country teams host their home invitational at the Evans Athletic Complex. High school girls will run at 8:30 a.m., with the boys running at 9:05. Middle school girls are at 9:45 and boys at 10:15. Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased online at tinyurl.com/NHScatstiks.

The Downtown Newark Association invites all local families downtown from 4 to 7 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 27, for STEM on the Square. Local businesses and organizations, including NCS, will be stationed around the courthouse with hands-on activities and demonstrations related to science, technology, engineering and math. Be sure to visit the red DNA tent for information on participants and opportunities to win prizes. It's almost August, and the first day of school for the 2021-22 school year is quickly approaching. The first day of school is set for Thurs., Aug. 19 for grades 1-5, 6 and 9. The rest of middle and high school will begin on Fri., Aug. 20.
