I want to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year at Newark High School, where it is a great time to be a Cat! I am extremely proud to be the principal of Newark High School. This is a very special place and our school is the focal point of many positive activities and events within our community. I have had the privilege of working at NHS for the past 23 years. During this time, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching our young men and women grow up, graduate from high school and move on to college, military, a job, or a technical/trade school.
I hope everyone is ready for the new school year. This year promises to be an exciting year as we work together to give high-quality instruction to our students in a blended format. Although most of our instruction will be delivered to your child remotely, there will be numerous opportunities for your child to have live interactions with their teachers. Our school day will start at 7:30 am and end at 2:55 pm. Please see the bell schedule below.
Teachers will utilize Google Classroom to deliver lessons and assignments to students. A class code is required to enter each subject classroom. These class codes will be found listed as the first assignment in Progressbook. Educational tutorials for Progressbook and Zoom can be found on the online resources link on the left side of the Newark High School webpage.
Students will follow their schedule of classes each day (bell schedule below). Classes will be conducted via Zoom, where students will be able to ask questions and have interactive discussions with their teachers. Teachers will record their lessons each day. If students are absent from class they will have the opportunity to view these recorded lessons later at their convenience. Students will be required to complete lessons, activities, and tests and will receive a grade based on their performance---just like in a regular school setting.
Additionally, each day from 12:55 to 2:55 pm is still considered part of the regular school day. This time is available for students to complete assignments or receive Zoom support from their teacher. This is flexible time for students to receive additional help from their teacher, or meet with their school counselor. All live face to face support must be scheduled in advance, and small numbers with safety protocols will be enforced (social distancing of 6’ will be maintained and masks must be worn in the building). If your child (or teacher) is not comfortable with in-person assistance, they can use Zoom. Again, your child will not be required to come in to the building during this time, they can meet via Zoom if necessary.

I look forward to our partnership this upcoming year. By working together, we can provide a fantastic learning experience for your child. As always, I appreciate your support. Go Cats!
