NCS Board to name new superintendent
The Newark City Schools Board of Education intends to approve a contract at its regular meeting on June 8 with David L. Lewis as the next Superintendent of the district, Board President Timothy Carr announced today. The Board had undertaken an extensive search and review of potential candidates since early March, and the process included the development of a superintendent search profile outlining characteristics and skills sought for the next superintendent, followed by interviews and background checks on all candidates. The process culminated this past Tuesday with final interviews and meetings of community and staff members with the finalists for the position. “The Board was impressed with Mr. Lewis’ focus on students, his demonstrated evidence of collaboration with both staff and other stakeholders, his history of community involvement, his vision for the Newark City Schools, and his energy,” Carr said.  Read More...
Phase 1 for Newark athletics returning to workout June 1
The Newark Athletic Department has announced procedures for student athletes to return to working out on district property. All Coaches and students will be screened for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 prior to individual workouts.  Athletes will take their temperature at home, prior to the workout. The Athlete/Coach Monitoring form will be completed for each workout and the coach will be responsible for saving all documents.  Any person with positive responses on the screening will not be allowed to participate and should contact their medical provider. Food service available week of June 1 at Carson, Wilson
Newark City Schools will continue to offer grab-and-go meals from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June 1 through June 5. The meals can be picked up from Carson Elementary or Wilson Middle School. The Salvation Army will begin offering the summer Summer feeding program the week of June 8 in Licking County.  Read More...
Pandemic-EBT program available for free/reduced price lunch students
If you have a child in kindergarten through twelfth grade in your household who was receiving free or reduced-price meals while in school, your child is eligible for the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits as a result of the school closure. The benefits equal $5.70 per child for each school day from March 17 through May 29, or nearly $300. Please click here for more information on the benefits and how to request them.  Read More...
