Community Forum about State Farm building set for April 29
Community Forum about State Farm building set for April 29
Newark City Schools will host a Community Forum at 6 p.m. on Thurs., April 29, in the Newark High School Auditorium to discuss the State Farm Building opportunity. The forum will also be streamed live to the district’s Facebook page, and will be shown on the district website. During this forum, district administrators and board members will discuss the opportunity to purchase the State Farm building at 1440 Granville Road in Newark.

NCS Summer 2021 Learning Opportunities
Newark City Schools will offer summer programming opportunities for students at all grade levels this summer. More information about each opportunity will be forthcoming, but we wanted families to be able to plan for each of these free opportunities:
  • STEM Camp: June 14-18
  • Foreign Language Camp: June 21-25
  • Kindergarten Readiness Academy: July 5-29
  • "Count Me In" Math Camp: June 28-July 2 and/or July 19-23
  • Newark Reads: June 28-July 2 and/or July 26-30

Board meeting start time changes to 5:30 p.m.
Board meeting start time changes to 5:30 p.m.

The Newark City School District Board of Education will move its regular meeting start time to 5:30 p.m. moving forward, beginning with the April 12 meeting. Meetings previously began at 6:30 p.m. The Board meets regularly on the second Monday of each month except for November’s meeting, which is on November 15. Meetings are held in Room 151 at the Administrative Service Center, 621 Mount Vernon Road in Newark.

Kindergarten registration set for April 5-16
It's time to start thinking about the 2021-22 school year if you have a child who will be 5 or 6 years old this fall. Newark City Schools will hold its annual kindergarten registration period from April 5 through April 16, with appointments from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, and appointments until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Parents can complete their child's registration online by clicking this link. More information about registering for kindergarten, included documentation needed, is available at this link.

Superintendent David Lewis was able to visit classrooms across the district this month to congratulate our March 2021 Citizens of the Month. Students are honored monthly based on their actions inside and outside of the classroom at school. They are nominated by their teachers. Usually, students are able to invite their families to a pizza lunch to recognize their achievement. This year, students are being recognized in front of their peers, with a certificate and coupons.

Register now for Kindergarten Readiness Academy 2021
Register now for Kindergarten Readiness Academy 2021
The annual Kindergarten Readiness Academy is a four-week summer program meant to help incoming kindergarten students become comfortable in a school setting, while exposing them to letters, numbers, literature, science, math and art concepts. This summer's program begins July 5 and lasts 4 days a week through July 29, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Register for this free program by downloading and filling out the form at this link. The form can be dropped off at any school building, mailed to the administrative service center, or emailed to Amy McDaniel at [email protected]. All registrations will be accepted as long as they are an incoming NCS kindergarten student.
